Rita Cronise

Advanced Level WRAP Facilitator
Rita Cronise is an award-winning freelance instructional designer who worked for more than two decades with Fortune 500 clients like Xerox and Kodak. She gained a reputation for taking complex technical concepts and making them clear and simple. In other words, she designed training that made sense.

But in 2002, the suicide of a friend changed everything. Suddenly things didn’t make sense. Her freelance career was profitable but seemed superficial. Did software or security or sales training really make a difference in people’s lives? Was there something more she could have done to help her friend?

Rita decided to “come out of the closet” and combine her skill as a training designer and her past struggles with psychiatric treatments to find ways to change the mental health system to one that makes sense. Of course, that wouldn’t be easy. At least not without a lot of help.

One of her first steps, in 2005, was to go to Vermont and get training from Mary Ellen Copeland on developing a Wellness Recovery Action Plan™ or WRAP™. Rita went on to become a WRAP facilitator and then an advanced level facilitator (someone who trains WRAP facilitators) and she now shares her successes in wellness and recovery, and lives changed as a result of WRAP, as proudly as she once shared her successes with training in Fortune 500 corporations.

Recently, Rita developed a training curriculum for peer specialists for the SAMHSA-Funded Recovery to Practice project and she has participated on a committee through the International Association of Peer Supporters (iNAPS) to develop Practice Guidelines for the emerging field of peer support providers.

She believes having a personal Wellness Recovery Action Plan™ is one of those things that just makes sense, whether you are an individual, a peer, or an organization. Everyone can benefit from WRAP™.
