Breaking the Silence on Civil Rights in Recovery

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Much of the current mental health system is built on an illness, rather than wellness focus.  The result for our communities has been challenging.  State laws restricting the civil rights of individuals diagnosed with mental illness have increased, and various groups continue to advocate for greater ease to force treatment.  This workshop will take a honest look at the state of affairs, and together we will create an action plan for how to face these challenges both individually and as an organized community.

Objectives:
1. Participants will gain an honest understanding of the of the impact of stigma in mental health treatment on the civil rights of those in treatment

2. Participants will gain an understanding how the current treatment focus impacts stigma, and Civil rights as a result.

3. Participants will participate in an empowering brainstorming session to build action steps to address these challenges in a wellness focused way.
